Russia launched Vietnam's first submarine

Russia's RIA Novosti news agency quoted sources as saying that Admiralteiskie Verfi shipyard launched the Kilo class submarine of the first 636 project in a six-ship shipment to Vietnam.
A source said: "The first submarine was launched on August 28 and will be tested shortly thereafter." The ship is expected to be delivered to Vietnam by the end of this year and all 6 ships will arrive in Vietnam from now until 2016.
The number of submarines on the contract worth nearly 2 billion USD was signed in December 12-2009 on the official visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to the Russian Federation.
This is one of the largest arms export contracts in Russian naval history. Besides providing submarines, during a visit to Vietnam in March 2010, Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said that Russia would also help Vietnam to build submarine bases and a maintenance and repair facility.
Russia's Kilo-class submarines will be delivered to Vietnam from now until 2016.
Tàu ngầm lớp Kilo thuộc dự án 636 chạy bằng động cơ điện - diesel, có độ choán nước 3.100 tấn, tốc độ tối đa khoảng 37 km/giờ. Nó có thể lặn sâu 300 m và chở theo thủy thủ đoàn gồm 52 người. Vũ khí trang bị trên tàu gồm hệ thống phóng ngư lôi 533 mm cùng các loại ngư lôi, thủy lôi và tên lửa hành trình Kaliber 3M54.
Cũng theo RIA Novosti, tàu ngầm lớp Kilo có biệt danh “Lỗ đen” nhờ khả năng “ẩn mình” hoàn hảo dưới nước. Được đánh giá là một trong các loại tàu ngầm hoạt động “im hơi lặng tiếng” nhất, tàu ngầm lớp Kilo thích hợp với các nhiệm vụ trinh sát, do thám, tuần tra cũng như chiến đấu chống tàu chiến và tàu ngầm trong vùng nước tương đối nông.
At the 10th Asian Security Forum (Shangri-La Dialogue 10) held in Singapore in June 2012, Vietnam's Minister of Defense, General Phung Quang Thanh, affirmed Vietnam's acquisition of class submarines. Russia's kilo is normal, public, transparent and said these submarines will only operate within Vietnam's waters.
